![]() ![]() Now don't panic, I know if you aren't familiar with video editing, that Vegas looks overly complicated and indeed it is and would be ridiculously bulky, overpriced and sophisticated for this kind of project, it's just I happen to have it and happen to be familiar with it. Now it's true that many journalists may find computer's difficult, or indeed have a complete and utter loathing for them, but I'm going to risk saying that most of them are fairly intelligent and that most of them should have little difficulty understanding the idea of a time line. ![]() This is a great idea, especially targeted at journalists, but Soundslides somehow managed to get it into their heads that most Journalists have the computer abillity of a preschooler (and not one of those 'Computer Generation' preschoolers, I'm talking baby boomer.). The concept behind Soundslides is easy a dedicated program for creating digital slide shows. ![]() Thus we come to Soundslides, possibly the greatest example of oversimplification I have ever encountered. Now this is not at all a bad thing, making this sort of communication accessible to everybody is a fantastic thing to do, but the issue I have with it is that when you simplify something, you also lose flexibility and versatility. Blogging, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube are all wonderful websites that really are amazingly effective communication tools, although they do suffer from a terrible disease known as 'social marketing.' But what these website's do, is they take all the feature's previously available on the net and they simplify and combine them into one convenient package so that anybody can use them. But for convergent journalism that sort of thing just wont do, no the focus must instead be on the satisfyingly cold, hard and gray toned world of technology that pervades this subject, or rather journalism's willingness to embrace it.īy this I mean that Journalism while readily getting itself wrapped up in technology as it emerges, only seems willing to embrace it as long as it come's with a 'recommended for ages 6 and below' tag on it, not to mention the 'contains small parts that could be harmful to children' warning. Upon reflecting on the previous sessions of university it was always very much an inward thing for me, I'd look at specific examples where I'd learned something and then write elaborate bullshit around it to make it interesting. I'd just like to note, both the Soundslides AND Youtube versions of my final project can be found in the 2 posts directly before this one. ![]()
